Position:                    Logistics Coordinator

Reports to:                Shipping Lead

FLSA Status:             Non-Exempt

Location/Shift:         Monroe, OH / 1st Shift


Job Duties and General Expectations:

  • Arrange for incoming and outgoing shipments to be handled according to set company rules and regulations
  • Always Maintain orderly and safe working conditions and ensure that all safety and health protocols are being followed
  • Shipping Department supplies inventory is kept current at all times and ensure timely ordering & delivery of such items
  • Keep electronic record of weekly inventory counts & orders
  • Work with Shipping Lead to ensure that Shipping Department employees are working towards set goals
  • Assist Shipping Lead to cross/train new employees
  • Assist in preparing documents to be sent with each shipment and ensure that incoming deliveries are complete, along with associated paperwork
  • Ensure that delivery deadlines are correctly met
  • Communicate & resolve when jobs have been shipped short
  • Assist Shipping Lead with workflow to and from the shipping area
  • Assist in preparing packing lists for product shipments consistent with customer requirements, including export documents and ensure all shipments are in regulatory compliance
  • Promote a clean and safe working environment through adherence to OSHA regulations and company safety rules
  • Report back to Shipping Lead any deficiencies in services
  • Assist in processing domestic and international shipments via FedEx and UPS
  • When necessary assist in the packing of outbound items upon request for safe and secure transport to intended destinations and ensure package has correct shipping address
  • All driver logs & company vehicle logs are kept updated in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Monitor file/document requests to stay in compliance
  • Maintenance of all hard copy files and documents, including permanent, work paper, audit, confirmation, correspondence, and research files
  • Ensure quality assurance initiatives are being observed at all times
  • Coordinate export compliance issues and domestic shipping issues with shippers, as required, including shipment tracking and lost freight issues 
  • Manage "same day" packages to ensure same day shipment
  • Coordinate all special requests as documented or requested by shipper. For example: special crating, palletizing, or customer labeling
  • Ensures operation of equipment by calling for repairs, evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Reports personnel problems to Shipping Lead, identifying solutions and recommending action
  • Completes hot jobs and past-due jobs as assigned by Shipping Lead
  • Identifies and corrects defected parts to meet company’s on-time delivery expectations for internal and external customers
  • Participates, and sometimes takes the lead, in company-wide 5S or continuous improvement initiatives
  • Communicates with internal customers (Sales, Billing, Promotional, & Manufacturing Departments and Management Teams) to resolve issues
  • Assists Shipping Lead in organizing department workflow, providing information and maintaining communication and fostering teamwork
  • Dispatching of inbound and outbound material and communicating with both Company and outside drivers and management concerning transportation issues
  • Monitors and contains transportation costs, including the development of spread sheets showing delivery zones and routes
  • Assists Manager in scheduling and tracking of inbound material through outside carriers
  • Assists in developing transportation contacts and obtaining the most beneficial rates on a local & national basis
  • Actively participate in process flow documentation and standard operating procedures and identify opportunities for improvement based on internal and external needs
  • Other projects as required by Lead of the department.

Position Specific Skills & Competencies:

  • Ability to quickly resolve problems
  • Excellent computer skills; spreadsheets applications.
  • Maintaining quality customer service to both internal & external customers by providing friendly and timely responses to all Shipping Department related inquiries
  • Understanding of Incoterms and stay current on international exporting changes such as commodity codes and customs regulations 
  • Solid judgment of defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action
  • Strong communicate skills to clearly and effectively interact with all departments and personnel.
  • Provides quality service by establishing and enforcing organizational standards
  • Ability to ensure accurate and timely processing of assigned tasks
  • Continuous improvement mindset



  • Minimum of 2 years in a shipping capacity (clerk, freight handler, driver, etc.), including use of Power Industrial Trucks (certification a plus), pallet jacks (manual and/or electric) and other material handling equipment
  • Working knowledge of domestic and international shipping and their respective requirements
  • Working knowledge of FedEx and UPS shipping systems and processing batch shipment labels
